Deery Repeats as 1A State Player of the Year

Burlington Notre Dame senior and future University of Iowa Hawkeye Gabby Deery repeated as the Class 1A volleyball Player of the Year, chosen by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association for its All-State list.

Deery guided the Nikes to its second consecutive state championship last year and merited Player of the Year honors by the IGCA in 2021.

West Burlington High School senior Sophia Armstrong earned third-team All-State honors for Class 2A this season, receiving an honorable mention last year.

Five other players from the South Division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference earned All-State honors in Class 1A.

Holy Trinity Catholic junior Mary Kate Bendlage made the first team. Senior Emma Nye of New London made the second team. Tiger teammate Natalie Burden, also a senior, earned third-team recognition, and New London senior Ellianna Manning and Holy Trinity Catholic freshman Presley Myers received honorable mention.
