Lauren Krieger is a nice, easy-going, fun-loving person by nature.

But put her in a uniform in a game situation and watch her transform into a fierce competitor.

Whether it be softball, volleyball or basketball, Krieger hates to lose.

She thrives on hard work and strives to make those around her better.

Case in point: this past volleyball season.

Krieger, a senior at Notre Dame High School, hadn’t played the sport since her freshman year. But when the Nikes needed a setter, she donned the uniform and gave it her best.

She ended up earning all-conference accolades.

That came on the heels of an all-conference performance at shortstop for the West Burlington-Notre Dame softball team last summer.

It comes as no surprise, then, that Krieger is off to a hot start in her senior season of basketball for the Nikes.

Krieger, is averaging 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 3.0 steals per game for the 4-6 Nikes.

Krieger and the Nikes jump back into action on Jan. 2 when they travel to play Iowa City Regina.

Notre Dame returns home Jan. 5 for an SEI Super Conference South Division game against New London at Father Minett Gymnasium.

The Hawk Eye recently caught up with Krieger, the High School Athlete of the Week, to learn a little more about her.
