Obituary

Martha A. Brakeville Mansheim, 64, died Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 3, 1959, in Coronado, California, she was the daughter of Beverley and Leona (Stodt) Brakeville. She was a 1977 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame.

She married Richard Mansheim on October 10, 1981, they later divorced.

Martha worked for Tenneco Ignition Products for over 29 years. Previously she worked for Chittenden and Eastman, Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penney and served as a union steward for Champion.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.

Martha loved watching and raising birds and was a lover of all animals and cars, especially Ford Mustangs and a collector of “ugly statues”. She was a true cancer warrior and fought it hard. Although stubborn, she had a great sense of humor and loved to pick on people. She had a nickname for all those she loved and was always the first with a good movie quote.

She is survived by her significant other G. Alan Harvey of New Boston, Iowa; her dog “Duke”; four siblings, Tom (Christine) Brakeville of Middletown, Iowa, Katherine Lloyd of West Burlington, Dorothy (Bill) Sanders of Donnellson, Iowa and Matt (Katherine) Brakeville of Burlington; step sister, Christa Burrell of Burlington and numerous much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Fred and Velva Brakeville and Richard and Minnie Stodt.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 10th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society or the YMCA Journey House for Battered Women.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
