Engberg earns CCAC honor

CHICAGO — Hits in all four games from St. Ambrose University’s Reagan Engberg and a pair of wins in the circle from Indiana University South Bend’s Maddy Edwards have earned the duo Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week recognition, respectively, for the seven-day period ending March 19. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday.

Engberg a former West Burlington-Notre Dame standout, batted .455 with five hits in 11 at bats and five runs batted in during the week. Besides collecting hits in each of her four games played, the freshman utility player scored at least one run in each contest and recorded no less than one run batted in in three of the affairs.

Engberg drove in three runs in a 13-2 victory over Augustana College on Wednesday, while going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in a 12-2 decision over University of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) on Saturday.

St. Ambrose’s 3-1 week put the Fighting Bees at 12-8 overall.
